She Can Walk!
Imogen walked yesterday. It came on suddenly in the evening when she ably took several steps. I was reaching for something on the front step and Simon yelled from inside, "Imogen's walking!" She took three to maybe seven steps each time. After an unsuccessful attempt to put her to bed, she walked from our living room into the kitchen.
But by this morning, no more walking. She got sort of interested again this evening, but not terribly so. We'll just see what happens tomorrow (or tomorrow evening). No rush.

The Ardabredum
We visited the Arboretum last night for the first time in probably 10 years. The "ardabredum," as I called it when I was little, was a special part of my childhood--my dad worked on it as a UW forestry student--so it was nice to see it again and introduce Imogen to such an amazing park.
A "Simonized" Amy?
This weekend when we were talking about who Imogen looks like, Simon described Immy as a "Simonized" Amy. That's funny. We've always said she was in an "Amy phase" or a "Simon phase."
This is a classic conversation and like so many things, you find yourself doing all those funny bits that new parents do, even though you weren't going to. It's great to be excited about where you and your child are right now. The other choice is to be jaded and I'd rather be filled with wonder. My Mom told me I'd be totally into pregnancy when I was pregnant, totally into newborns when I had one, totally into one-year olds when Immy's one. And she was right!

Whole Lot 'a Growin' Goin' On
It seems like Imogen, 13.5 mos., is in a growth spurt, at least judging by all the pants and shirts that are suddenly too small. She's also getting her third "first" molar in a month. On top of all this plus moving into her own room and bed in the last couple weeks, and the addition of a tiny potty to our bathroom, and several new hand signs, Immy can now take two or three independent and very forward-leaning steps before she falls into one of us.
I didn't realize how much was going on until I just wrote it down. That explains a lot.

A Place on Earth
We intend to raise Imogen in Port Angeles, Washington, a mid-sized town between the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the north Olympic Peninsula.

An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July
Immy, with her cousins and friends, entered the Forks Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Kiddies' Parade as a zoo. They won the prestigious Judges' Award! Imogen was the zookeeper.
Being in the Kiddies' Parade is something my sister and I used to do in the old-fashioned 1970s, so that made it extra special.
